With graduation quickly approaching, seniors are working hard to make their last year at BHS the best. These “Shining Seniors” each have unique, individual goals for their time left here.
Son of Mark and Connie Logan, Richie has one sibling, Daphne. Previously, he was an offensive lineman on the football team, and said during his time playing, his life was affected greatly.
“You go through a lot of hard times while playing, just like in life,” he said. “You always have to keep going, no matter what.”
His goal for senior year is to graduate and later study diesel mechanics when he attends college.
Ciara Steward is the daughter of John and Penny Farley and sister to Cassadee Farley. Before transferring to BHS, she was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and starting softball pitcher at Oxford High. Now as a senior here, she joined the Lady Trojan softball team and maintained her position as starting pitcher. She is going to attend Alabama A&M for her college education and will major in either English or nutrition.
She plans to play softball in college, and said, “Playing softball has taught me that there are hard times. When things don’t go your way, you have to push through it to be successful.”
Steward hopes for an enjoyable softball season and she cannot wait to graduate.
Mikala Turner is a member of Drama Club, Skuna River Review and Juniorettes. She is reporter for her senior class, and participated in Interact her freshman year. Her mother is Melinda Turner. Her siblings are Kayla and Michael Howell, Brandon and Krystye Golden, J.R., Christy, and Brittney Turner and Jenny Kent.
She enjoys writing, collecting makeup, watching makeup tutorials on You- Tube, and organizing. Her best friend has been an important influence in her life.
“Having a best friend like Amber Moore definitely keeps me on my toes. With all the crazy things we have gotten ourselves into, it’s no wonder as to why I am so strong and independent now.
She pulled me out of my shy shell back in the tenth grade and helped me become the confident, strong, and outspoken person I am today,” said Turner. She plans to attend Ole Miss next fall to study journalism. She plans to embrace the moments with her friends and family, get an honors/ special honors cord at graduation, get scholarship money, and stay organized.
Shekerria Stephens, daughter of Charlotte and Howard Stephens, has two siblings, Dekendrick Yates and Kendrick Stephens. She plans to graduate, attend ICC, and go to the University of Alabama to pursue her dreams of becoming a pediatric nurse. She has played the flute in the band, played tennis, participated in Drama Club, been a member of
FFA and FCA, and participated in power lifting.
“I’ve experienced a lot in high school that has made me realize that I’m about to be in the real world alone. Not having a junior year is what brought it to my attention that I have to try even harder to become a better person,” expressed Stephens.
