The 92nd annual Calhoun County Fair is going on all this week in Pittsboro with a flurry of events for all ages.
Mikayla Shelton of Bruce was crowned Fairest of the Fair Monday night in the annual pageant and the carnival opened on Tuesday.
July 22 will be highlighted by the annual goat show at 1:30 p.m. and the carnival midway.
Gate admission will be $1 Wednesday. Gate admission is $3 every other night except Friday when it’s $5.
Thursday, July 23 events will include a 4-H potluck supper, biscuit making demonstration, the annual pet show, a pony pull and the return of the pig scramble.
Friday, July 24 will be the Calvary Rodeo, based out of Walnut, featuring cowboys from the Calhoun area along with others from all over the country competing. The rodeo will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Prior to the rodeo there will be a sheep and steer riding for all youth 14 and under starting at 6 p.m. The Calhoun County 4-H Drill Team will perform at 7 p.m.
“This is a first for us,” Extension Agent Trent Barnett said. “Children under 50 pounds will ride sheep and the bigger kids will ride steers. It should be a lot of fun.”
