Incumbent District Three Supervisor Gwin Longest narrowly defeated challenger Justin Ferguson in Tuesday’s runoff to advance to the Nov. 3 general election.

Longest won both the Bruce (203-180) and Banner (96-72) boxes in Tuesday’s runoff for the 299-252 victory.
Longest was the top vote-getter in the Aug. 4 primary 320-221 with Danny Rodgers placing third with 111, but due to Longest receiving less than 50% of the total vote, a runoff was required.
Longest will face Republican Keith Bollinger in November. Bollinger collected 110 votes in the Republican Primary to defeat Ron Griffin on Aug. 4.
Everything is now set for the November general election except for the district three school board race which is still in the qualifying stage until Sept. 4.
Longest’s and Bollinger’s matchup in district three will be among three supervisor races on the ballot.
District Two Supervisor J.B. Rogers will face Republican Robert Henry and Board President Barney Wade will face Republican David Martin, of Derma, in district four.
The sheriff’s race will have three names on the ballot – Democrat Mark Hendrix of Vardaman; Republican Greg Pollan of Calhoun City, the incumbent; and Independent candidate Larry Swanson of Bruce.
Incumbent Chancery Clerk Romona Tillman, Democrat, will be opposed by Republican Jimmy Clemons.
School Superintendent Mike Moore of Calhoun City will face Republican challenger Scotty Collins of Pittsboro.
Post Two Constable Benny Langford will face Republican challenger Barry Cannon. Both are from Calhoun City.
The County attorney’s race features two Vardaman candidates – incumbent Tina Scott, a Republican, and challenger Karsunn Moore, a Democrat.
