Mikayla Shelton just began her fourth year of reporting for the Skuna River Review. Along with contributing to the weekly newspaper, she has recently taken on the duty of the editor.

This position requires her to edit everyone’s articles, lay out the next week’s edition, and make sure all ads are taken care of. She is also available if any of the staff members need any assistance.
“I feel honored to be the editor for the next two years. I cannot wait to see what this year brings, “ said Shelton.
Shelton is also involved in several activities outside of school. She is a first soprano in Linda Ann Ward’s group, Lyrix. She raises and shows goats, which requires a lot of time and effort. She is very involved with her youth group and church. She is also a Bruce Fine Arts Juniorette, and on certain occasions, she sings locally. She absolutely loves being with friends and family, regardless of the time or place.
“My favorite Bible verse is Joshua 1:9. It reminds me to be strong and courageous, because my God will carry me whenever I’m weak, struggling, or in dire need of help,” Shelton said.
Shelton’s favorite teachers are Jordan Graham and Carrington Harrelson.
“I would have to say my favorite teacher would have to be Coach Jordan Graham. He goes above and beyond his written duties as a teacher to help me with school as well as my walk with Christ. Also, Carrington Harrelson falls in with him because she always makes sure we are provided for, and she is always there if we need her,” she said.
Shelton is looking forward to creating a brand for herself as editor, as well as modernizing the paper. She wants to spruce up the edition to include more of the students as well as teachers. Rather than being the Skuna River Review’s paper, Shelton would like for it to be for the students by the students, including every Bruce school.
