A part of Big Creek history was removed last week due to safety concerns by town leaders.
The old Ag shop for the Big Creek School, which sat atop the hill next to the late Bobby Harrison’s Big Creek Upholstery shop was torn down last week.
“The building was in bad shape and the town did not have the money to fix it, so before we had some type accident the board decided to tear it down,” Big Creek Mayor Dwight DeVall said.
He explained the town has no plans for the spot at this time, only to clean it up.
The building orginally served as the AgShop for the Big Creek School with a classroom in one end and the remainder of the building consisting of the work shop.
Over the years, the classroom also served as the Big Creek Beauty Shop, run by Mary Jane Crutchfield.
Many had utilized the shop facility as a mechanic’s shop through the years.
