Qualifying ends today for U.S. House of Representatives races

Today is the qualifying deadline for Calhoun County's representative in the U.S. Congress with three so far in the race.

Incumbent U.S. Rep. Trent Kelly, who was elected in a 2015 special election, has qualified to run for-re-election as a Republican. Paul Clever of Olive Branch has qualified to run against Rep. Kelly in the March 8 primary.

Jacob Aaron Owens has qualified to run as a Democrat.

Qualifying ends at 5 p.m. today. The general election will be Nov. 8.

In other U.S. House districts across Mississippi, Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson is currently unopposed. He was first elected in 1993.

In the central 3rd District, Rep. Gregg Harper has one primary challenger thus far, Jim Giles. No Democrat has filed to run. Harper was first elected in 2008.

In the southern 4th District, Rep. Steven Palazzo does not have a Republican primary challenger so far. Mark Dey Gladney qualified as a Democrat. Palazzo was first elected in 2010.
