Derma board of aldermen approved a quick claim deed to a citizen for a lot that taxes have not been paid on for almost 10 years.
Alex Armstrong is buying the town’s interest in the Katherine Stovall property for $1,540, after a recommendation from town attorney Paul Moore.
Clerk Deneen Russell said they are getting more aggressive with these properties and they expect more to be sold this year.
In another matter, alderwoman Andrea Corbitt told Police Chief Stan Evans that issues on Church Hill such as speeding and loud music were escalating.
Chief Evans said they had made some cocaine busts there and “there’s a lot going on that y’all don’t know about.”
“We are cracking down,” he said, “expect it to be better by the summer.”
Evans said that Sundays were the worst days and Corbitt agreed.
“You can’t have church for the loud music,” she said.
Evans said they were really going to “pick it up” on Sundays.
Also at the meeting, board approved hiring MS Rural Water to complete the Consumer Confidence Report for 2015 at a cost of $75.
They also approved clerk Deneen James to attend a BBI Tax Workshop April 21.
In another matter, they approved Statewide Mutual Aid Compact between Derma and Mississippi Emergency Management Association.
Clerk Deneen James reported bad debts–Jasmie Dorrough and Amber Reynolds.
Mayor Pro Tem A.G. Gibson led the meeting in the absence of Mayor Dock Gabbert who is recovering from knee surgery. Alderwomen Aretha Herrod was not at the meeting.
Next board meeting will be Tuesday, Apr. 3.
