The Calhoun County Republican Party will hold its county convention on Saturday, April 23.
All interested party members will first meet at their respective precincts around the county at 10 a.m. where delegates will be elected for the county convention.
Those elected delegates from each precinct will then meet at the courthouse in Pittsboro at 3 p.m.
Only delegates duly elected at the precinct meetings have a vote in the County Convention at the courthouse.
The County Convention chooses a Republican County Executive Committee to manage the Party’s affairs in the county as well as the county’s delegates to the State Convention.
Each county is allotted a certain number of delegates (and an equal number of alternate delegates) to the State Convention.
The number is based on population and is equivalent to one delegate for each 10,000 citizens residing in the county at the time of the last Census. Calhoun County is allotted 1 delegate and 1 alternate.
Those delegates will attend the state convention have the opportunity for election to the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, July 18-21.
