A Calhoun City woman was killed in a two-car accident near the Hwys. 8-9 intersection Saturday afternoon.
Gladys L. Jennings, 64, of Calhoun City, died at Calhoun Health Services from injuries sustained during the collision that occurred around 5:30 p.m.
According to Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) reports, a white 2000, GMC Jimmy (SUV) and a black 1997, Toyota Camry were both traveling east on Hwy. 9. As both vehicles continued eastbound, the Toyota collided into the rear of the GMC causing both vehicles to travel off the right side of the highway and the GMC to overturn.
The driver of the GMC, 55 year old Gloria Lawrence of Calhoun City sustained life threating injuries and was air lifted to Region One Medical Center in Memphis. Lawrence had three passengers in her vehicle – 55 year old Charles Pulliam of Derma, who was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo with moderate injuries; a two year old toddler that sustained critical injuries and was air lifted to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, and Jennings, who was transported to Calhoun Health Services where she later died.
The driver of the Toyota, 22 year old, Shaquille Bean of Pontotoc, was uninjured in the collision.
This accident remains under investigation by MHP.
