Watkins, Ward & Stafford PLLC recently acquired Joe Carnaggio’s accounting firm and will soon move into a new office on the west side of the Calhoun City Square next door to Chandler Drugs.
Carnaggio, 69, is continuing to work for the new company and said he’s excited about the new location and offerings for the community.
“The technology they are offering will really have a big impact in the services we can provide,” Carnaggio said. “I’m really looking forward to it.”
The new location, which was acquired July 1, will feature eight offices and a conference room. Carnaggio said they hope to be moved in by Sept. 1.
“It’s going to be great being there on the square,” he said. “I think it will be a real positive for the town.”
The space was previously occupied by Studio on the Square, which has now moved to the former Calhoun Communications building on Hwy. 9 across from Nelson’s restaurant.
The dance studio is now called “Legacy Dance Academy” and is managed by Madison Getty.
The North Mississippi Medical Clinic at Calhoun Health Services is moving into the former AT&T store next to the Piggly Wiggly in Calhoun City.
They are also looking to be operational by early September in the new location.
Speaking of Calhoun Health Services, they are undergoing a name change with Baptist officially taking over the hospital and nursing home in October. The facilities will now be known as Baptist Memorial Hospital – Calhoun and Baptist Nursing Home – Calhoun.
Two major construction projects on the campus are also progressing. The renovation at the nursing home is scheduled to be complete in October. The larger expansion project on the front of the campus to house an expanded physical therapy department, ambulance service and administrative offices is scheduled to be completed early next year.
Dollar General is continuing to set up its new store in the former Walmart Neighborhood Market in Derma. The company has not publicly announced when it plans to open in the new location.
Steve McGreger of Houston has opened a new antique store in the former Piggly Wiggly building in Calhoun City on the corner of Taylor Avenue and North Madison Street.
Rose Diamond, secretary of the Calhoun City Chamber of Commerce, reported several local businesses have recently completed or are in the process of making improvements to their properties.
Regions Bank recently re-striped its parking lot and made some other exterior improvements. Laura Edwards Accounting is almost complete with an interior renovation of their office.
