A Slate Springs man is hospitalized at Baptist Hospital in Oxford after being stabbed and then run over during an altercation with his wife and another man Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff Greg Pollan said Christina Rutherford and Earnest Phillip, who live in Okolona, were transporting the Rutherford children back to Slate Springs Wednesday when they stopped at Moreland Cemetery and Phillip got out of the car.
Rutherford then drove the car to her husband Mike Rutherford’s home on Hwy. 9 in Slate Springs, dropped the children off, and then Mr. Rutherford drove her back to the cemetery to meet Phillip.
Pollan said an argument ensued immediately upon arriving at the cemetery over ownership of the car, which is registered to Mike Rutherford.
During the argument, Phillip stabbed Mike Rutherford in his left side, causing him to fall out of the car. Pollan said Mrs. Rutherford then backed over him.
Mike Rutherford was transported by ambulance to Oxford where he is listed in stable condition.
Phillip and Christina Rutherford have both been charged with aggravated assault. Their bond won’t be set until sometime Friday.
Pollan said the case remains under investigation.
