Jay Vanlandingham, Bruce Telephone Company manager, will be the next president of the Bruce Chamber of Commerce.
Vanlandingham was elected as the organization’s next president Monday following the chamber’s regular monthly meeting. He will succeed Ben Hogan, manager of PEPA in Bruce.
“We appreciate Jay’s willingness to serve and look forward to his leadership in the coming year,” Hogan said.
“The Bruce Chamber of Commerce does a lot for this community and it’s an honor to get to serve in this role and work with our local business community to help make Bruce an even better place,” Vanlandingham said.
Andy Stepp was re-elected vice president of the chamber. Vanlandingham will officially take over during the Feb. 23 Chamber Banquet.
Ken Edgeworth with Weyerhaeuser was the guest speaker at Monday’s meeting. Edgeworth spoke on the company’s commitment to safety.
“We chase perfection and on the way try to catch excellence,” Edgeworth said.
He noted the many upgrades at the Bruce mill over the past two years including new saw lines and CDK’s that have helped boost productivity.
“We’ve got new projects planned for the coming year,” he said.
Edgeworth thanked local officials for their efforts in securing the new turn lane for the mill off Hwy. 9.
“It’s been a big plus taking the log traffic jam off the highway and bringing it inside our gates,” Edgeworth said. “It’s something we wanted for a long time and appreciate everyone who worked to make it happen.”
Chamber Secretary Terry Davis said it’s been a busy time for the Bruce Museum with many rentals the past month.
“We’re also rented for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day,” she said. “We’ve had a lot of great feedback on the new lights. People seem to really be enjoying those.”
