No one had qualified to run in this year’s municipal elections as of Tuesday morning across the county. Every mayor and board of alderman seat is up for election in 2017.
Qualifying will continue until March 3.
Bruce Town Clerk Rita Talford said she expected Republican and Democratic Executive Committees to be in place within the week to allow candidates to qualify with the party of their choice or go independent. Most municipal candidates elsewhere in the county have all qualified as independents in past elections to avoid the need for primaries and just have a general election.
Independent candidates must turn in petitions with signatures of registered voters within their ward while party qualifiers don’t require a petition.
Candidates will be posted on The Journal’s twitter account (@CalhCoJournal) and website (calhouncountyjournal.com) as they qualify.
