The Calhoun Academy senior class had to shadow careers that they would like to pursue in the future for English IV, which is taught by Mrs. Jennifer Rogers.
Aubrey Schmitz shadowed Paul Moore, Jr. at the Calhoun County Courthouse.
Mr. Moore practices law as an attorney. Aubrey said he enjoyed having the opportunity to experience our justice system first hand. John Riley Wilbanks shadowed Melissa Robertson, an accountant, at Watkins, Ward, and Stafford.
John Riley said he enjoyed getting to learn about individual taxes, and how the businesses file their taxes. Becka Ledbetter shadowed Lakyn Parker at Cut-N-Up Salon in Bruce, MS.
Mrs. Parker is a cosmetologist. Becka got to learn about things in a hands-on way and about the schooling required to be a cosmetologist.
Claire Carter shadowed a surgical technician in New Albany, MS. Claire said she enjoyed getting to watch them do all of the different surgeries. Michael Jones shadowed Kelli Bartimus at the Trace Regional Hospital in Houston, MS. Mrs. Bartimus is an occupational therapist.
Michael said he enjoyed learning more about this field of work that he plans to pursue a career in. He also enjoyed learning how this job affects the lives of patients and how the patients overcome adversity with the help of the occupational therapist. Caleb Hill shadowed Chodie Myers.
Mr. Myers works for Willis Engineering. When asked what Caleb enjoyed most about his experience, he said “Learning about many different things such as surveying land and getting state aid to repair bridges and other stuff.”
Remington Crutchfield shadowed Mr. Lynn Stewart at the Career and Technical Center in Calhoun City, MS. Mr. Stewart teaches tool and die to high school students from the Calhoun County school district.
Remington got to meet new people, had the opportunity to learn about future job options and watch the class construct a tilt trailer and cut the stands to hold it in place.
Haley Tedder shadowed Sarah Conlee in New Albany, MS. Mrs. Conlee is a nurse on the outpatient surgery floor. Haley got to watch Mrs. Conlee prepare patients for surgery and take care of patients after their surgery.
