Calhoun County high school graduates will now be able to attend Northwest, Northeast and Itawamba community colleges tuition free after the board of supervisors voted Monday to expand the county program.

The county’s program previously only applied to Northwest, but the board voted unanimously Monday to expand it to Northeast and ICC.
Board Attorney Sonny Clanton said the current contract, which expires in two years, includes those schools along with Northwest, allowing the county to offer its funds to students attending any of the three schools. The program is not available for students attending any other community college, such as Holmes or East Mississippi, but Clanton said those could be negotiated in the next contract.
In other news from Monday’s meeting:
•Board adopted a resolution allowing the county to charge late fees on delinquent garbage bills.
•Approved low bid of $349,929 from True North Earthworks of Potts Camp for bridge project on CR 282 near Banner.
•Approved “critical inspection” for 13 bridges around county per federal guidelines.
•Approved resolution supporting expansion of Town of Bruce rubbish site.
•Approved $3,000 appropriation from fire fund to each fire department.
•Vaughn Blaylock with Trash Truck Auctions talked to the board about hosting reverse online auctions for surplus garbage trucks. No action taken.
•Reappointed Cliff Easley Jr., of Bruce,to the regional housing authority board for a five year term.
•Accepted donation of 1989 Freightliner and 1999 Dodge truck from Town of Bruce to District Two.
•Approved school bus turnarounds on CR 400 and CR 102.
•Authorized Circuit Clerk Carlton Baker to issue passports to citizens in his office. There is no cost to the county for Baker’s office to offer the service.
•Agreed to advertise for a dump truck for district four.
