Vintrell Bobo, 23, appeared before Judge Kelly Luther in Circuit Court today in Pittsboro.

He, along with Rocdriques Denton, also of Calhoun City,  were charged in the murder of Kenneth Patterson of Pittsboro in December 2015.

Sheriff Greg Pollan said Bobo and Denton invaded a house on Private Road 2001 west of Pittsboro, where Brandon Ezell and Patterson lived.

Pollan said Bobo and Denton, who authorities believe knew Ezell and Patterson, entered the home heavily armed and numerous shots were immediately fired.

Patterson was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. During the shootout, Ezell was able to retrieve a weapon that he owns and fire at the assailants, striking Bobo in the side.

Bobo was later transported by a family member to Calhoun Health Services and was airlifted to UMC in Jackson where he stayed for several days.

Pollan said Ezell left the residence unharmed and came to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department and reported the incident. It was also called in to 911 after a neighbor heard the gunshots.

Denton is scheduled for trial in the next court session, probably in August, Pollan said.

In another case, Jimmy Joe Tutor, 27, of Water Valley, was found guilty in a trial jury for burglary of a dwelling in Calhoun and sentenced to 25 years.

Pollan said that Tutor was tried as a habitual offender and he will not be eligible for parole.
