Gas prices around Calhoun County are currently in line with the cheapest in the country.
A survey last week by AAA showed the lowest average gas price in the country was South Carolina at $2.01. Mississippi wasn’t far behind at $2.07.
Calhoun County’s average was also $2.07. Derma has the current lowest rates with both of its gas stations at $2.05.
Vardaman’s was the highest at $2.08 between their two stations.
Bruce and Calhoun City both had averages of $2.07. Jim’s Express at the redlight in Bruce was the lowest in the county at $2.03.
A spokesman for AAA said prices are currently lower than recent years due to an unexpected buildup of crude oil combined with ongoing high gasoline production runs, an increase in gasoline stocks and a drop in gasoline demand.
