The Calhoun County Airport has been approved for a $167,064 grant for land acquisition, and hangar construction according to Mississippi’s Congressional Delegation.
A press release from the delegation on Monday stated the county had been approved from the grant from the Airport and Airway Trust Fund, which is supported by user fees, fuel taxes and other, similar revenue sources.
County Engineer Chodie Myers said he was informed the funding was contingent on the county acquiring the needed land for the project by Aug. 1.
The county needs approximately two acres directly south of the airport to build the three new hangars.
The airport currently has 10 hangars with all 10 occupied and a waiting list of more than three wanting hangar space should more become available.
Myers said the county is working to get the additional two acres appraised now and attempting to get everything done in a timely manner so the project can proceed.
