Bruce Mayor Rudy Pope and the board of aldermen got an up close look at the town’s new generator Tuesday night.
The more than $60,000 piece of equipment will serve as a backup in case of emergency for the town’s water system, but can also be used for other needs.
Mayor Pope explained it has not been tested yet, but the company is scheduled to come soon and conduct a complete test with it on the system.

In other news from the very brief meeting, Jordan Hall, Bruce High Softball Coach, informed the board the team has begun fundraising to build a 50x100 foot indoor hitting facility just beyond the outfield fence and asked the town to lease them the property.

The town approved a similar lifetime lease, for virtually no cost, for the indoor baseball facility in the park. The board took no official action Tuesday, but pledged their support. They agreed to look into what needed to be done to formalize the lease.

Mayor Pope reported to the board he hasn’t yet heard if the town has received the grant for the new walking/bike track that will circle Bruce Park, but they are proceeding with the dirt work for the project.
The local MS National Guard company has agreed to assist in the project as one of their training details.
Mayor Pope said they believe it will take two weekends and the Guard will use all their equipment to do the work. The town’s responsibility is the supply the needed dirt.

“We’ve got options at the landfill and more,” Pope said. “I’m working on that.”
The board also approved the purchase of ads for the Calhoun County School Reunion and Bruce Athletic Booster Club programs and a sponsorship of the Calhoun Community Choir.
