Pittsboro board of aldermen agreed to install a security camera to try and catch those abusing the town’s dumpsters on the old school property.
Alderman Jimmy Franklin told the board at last week’s meeting he acquired a quote on a security camera to watch the dumpsters for $167.
Alderwoman Cindy Hubbard said she’d like for the town to get two.
“I don’t think it’s going to help nothing,” Alderman Troy Moore said, who previously stated he supports getting rid of the dumpsters entirely.
Alderman Fred Bullard pointed out that CSpire has equipment on the water well next to the dumpsters and is up there often working. He suggested the town see if a deal couldn’t be struck with them to assist in the security.
The board agreed, but in the interim accepted an offer from Franklin to install his personal camera as a trial.
In other news from the county seat, the town received a renewal letter from MaxxSouth on their franchise agreement, but the board agreed to have attorney Ben Suber to review it before acting. Aldermen said they were interested in negotiating a better deal for the town from the company.
Clerk Deana Thacker informed the board she had sought quotes from Ricky Odom, Mark Busby and Dean Brummett on installing a back door in Town Hall as the board had suggested.
The board discussed if they really wanted a second door at all. The idea was to install a back door for safety reasons. The only current entrance to Town Hall is the front door off the square.
The board discussed putting in a security system or panic button that would send alarm to sheriff’s department if a problem arose, and dropping the back door project.
It was all tabled for the time being.
Water Supervisor Charles Mahan told the board he set two new meters this month.
