Christopher Lee Gray, 32, was taken into custody around 2 p.m. today by the sheriff's department, U.S. Marshals and Vardaman Police.

Sheriff Greg Pollan said the alleged incident reportedly occurred at a house in Calhoun City a few weeks ago where Gray was staying at the time. The child was taken to the emergency room at North Mississippi Medical Center for treatment where the case was reported to social services who notified authorities.

Pollan said their investigation led them to Gray today in Vardaman and he was taken into custody without incident. Gray is also charged for failing to register as a previously convicted sex offender.

Bruce Policeman Tony Sockwell answered the call to Bruce Police from family members of the victim. Sockwell said the victim was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center for treatment as part of the investigation.

Sockwell said Wright is related to the victim and was living in the home in the apartments on North Newberger at the time. During the investigation he had returned to Calhoun City where sheriff's deputies picked him up Tuesday.

Bond had not been set for either as of Thursday evening.
