It is a new school year, which means new teams. Every year, sports teams allow new people to join so the team can grow and get better.
Linebackers join the football team, pitchers join the baseball and softball teams, point guards join the basketball team, and engineers in training join the robotics team.
The robotics team is a group of students who come together to build and program a robot. They use the robot they build to compete in state and nationwide competitions.
This year there are five members of the high school robotics team: Cade Ozbun, Seth Burks, Kevin Gonzales, Gauge May and Chris Mathieu.
The team is taught by the Calhoun County Engineering teacher Jennifer Bennett.
“Though this is my first year, I believe it will be great,” said Kevin Gonzales.
“I am really hoping to make it to the world competition this year,” said Cade Ozbun.
“I am confident in both teams. We have an all-girls middle school team and an all-boys high school team. I am ecstatic to see them compete,” said Jennifer Bennett.
“I am excited about the upcoming season. We have a new year and a new robot, and I believe we will do great. I’m ready to see where this season and team cooperation takes us,” said Seth Burks.
