Charlie Jackson was hired as a part-time police officer at Calhoun City during an executive session of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen at their regular meeting last night. Upon the recommendation of Police Chief Tito Lopez to hire Jackson, a request was made by Alderman Jerry Vaughn to go into executive session to discuss the matter.
Lee Burns reported that the Industrial Park well has been put back together, has no vibration, and they are waiting on a water sample result they will have at noon Wednesday to get it back on line. Approval was given for payment of the Parks and Parks invoice for this project.
Burns also said camera work needs to be done on four sewers, and gravel has been ordered for the shoulders of the road on Boland and Willis Streets.
Citizen Betty Therrell addressed the board about an excessive water bill that resulted from vandalism on her property. Because of the circumstances, an adjustment will be made to her bill.
A quick claim deed to Calhoun County School District of the city’s interest in the property (Newby Holdings LLC Etal, formerly Calhoun City Recreation Club) on either side of the swimming pool was agreed upon to get that property to the school district.
Advertising for bids for hay cutting on city property at the Industrial Park was approved.
Approval was given for the cancellation of the lease property with Calhoun National Properties LLC for the property on the square used for the Farmers’ Market. The lease would have originally ended in February.
Willis Engineering Inc. was approved for the ARC Project on the Old Kellwood building roof (the Little Birdie building) for manufacturing building improvements.
Alma Bailey Gordon was approved to replace Tommy Brown as a Library Board member, to serve through December 2021.
At a special called meeting of the board on November 21, Jeremy Pounders was hired as a full-time police officer replacing Jeremy Matthews, who resigned after being hired October 23.
