The town of Bruce has applied for a $300,000 grant for a radio-based electronic meter reading system.

Bruce Mayor Rudy Pope
The system would allow all residential water meters to be read from inside City Hall and eliminate the need for someone to go door-to-door every month manually checking every meter.
The grant requires a 20% match from the town, which would cost $60,000.
“It would be well worth it if we get the grant,” Mayor Rudy Pope said. “This system would be more efficient, much more reliable and would pay for itself over time.”
Mayor Pope said the system would only be used on residential meters for the time being, with commercial meters still being handled by manual reading.
“We don’t know if we’ll get approved for the grant, but we’re hopeful,” Pope said.
