The Bald Eagle rescued from the side of the highway in Slate Springs last week was ultimately euthanized by the Jackson Zoo.
Deputy Dean Poynor, who helped Wildlife officers capture the injured Eagle, said he was told it still had “no deep pain response or movement in the left leg” late last week and “was also unable to keep food down.”
The Eagle was flying lower than normal while carrying a 2-pound catfish when it was hit by a truck on Hwy. 9. Poynor and two game wardens arrived on the scene and captured the Eagle in a net, transferred it to a dog kennel and took it to the Jackson Zoo, where veterinarians were awaiting its arrival.
