The Circuit Clerk’s office in Pittsboro will be open for the next two Saturdays – May 26 and June 2 – for absentee voting in the June 5 party primaries.
Calhoun Countians will have one contested race to vote in on June 5, regardless of whether they choose to participate in the Republican or Democratic primary.
The only contested race on the Republican ballot will be for U.S. Senator. Incumbent Roger Wicker is challenged by 68-year-old Richard Warren Boyanton of the Gulf Coast.
U.S. Rep. Trent Kelly is also on the June 5 ballot, but unopposed. He will be challenged by Randy Mack Wadkins, of Oxford, in November. Wadkins is unopposed on the Democratic ballot.
The contested race on the Democratic ballot is to see who will advance to face the Wicker-Boyanton winner. Candidates are David Baria, Jensen Bohren, Jerone Garland, Victor G. Maurice Jr., Omeria Scott and Howard Sherman.
