Vardaman Board of Aldermen discussed adopting a sewer ordinance that would prevent certain substances, such as grease and other insolubles, from being placed in the sewer system at the regular meeting of the board last night.
Street and water employee Chris Ward said the ordinance was recommended by MDEQ, and a spokesman for MDEQ said they would help the town set it up. The board tabled the matter to get more information.

The board took under advisement a proposal from Blake Goodson with Wade Inc. for a new tractor for the town.
Last month the board discussed leasing a tractor to use in the summer since the town’s tractors are not in working condition, but Goodson said the state will not allow municipalities to lease. The board also approved a new culvert policy for the town. The policy is that if a supervisor gives a citizen a culvert, the town will install it.
In another matter, Mayor James Casey said that they had been notified that the Vardaman First Baptist Church would no longer be renting old city hall which the Hispanic Mission Church Planting were using.

The board also:
•Agreed to rehire all employees.
•Approved a tax exemption of $8,300 from Furniture Wood for purchasing new equipment.
•Tabled the matter of moving three pieces of playground equipment from the old park on school property to Veterans Park.
•Keeping Industrial Drive as the street name of the street across from school that has always been called that.
•Approved a request from a citizen who bought a house on Richards St. who asked that the town remove broken up sidewalk so she could put in a culvert and make a driveway.
The board ended the meeting in executive session to discuss personnel.
