Calhoun City Board of Aldermen voted to leave the transient vendor privilege annual license fee at $20, remaining the same as when participating in the Farmer’s Market.
On the topic of two police cars in need of work, it was decided to get another quote on the one which possibly requires less repair, before proceeding with any action. Police Chief Tito Lopez said they are both in bad condition.

In another police department matter, Michael L. Herring was hired as a part-time officer, effective June 5, with salary set at $10 per hour.
The minutes will reflect that in the paving of city streets the board will reimburse the county for cost of materials. Mayor Amye Hill will check on the difference in the last quote and a current one.
Areas discussed were Burke Road up to the hospital, along with George Street. About Burke Road, alderman Marshall Coleman said, “I think this is a good project for this year, the way I look at it,” and Alderman Barbara Goodson agreed. “I’d like to move forward with both projects,” said Coleman.
“If we fix the Pamela, George and Patsy Street culverts, that would have them pretty much back in decent condition, shouldn’t it? That shouldn’t be a whole lot,” said alderman Dale Hays. Lee Burns told the board he has a plan for George Street.
Burns also reported that a brand new water meter was put in at the Baptist Church CARE Center “today and it does not work at all.” He reported that someone is coming this week to look at it.
Due to a sewer project of repairing a line on Calhoun Street at the new lift station, Burns asked for permission to check on the price of a pump truck, or, after the suggestion of Engineer Chodie Myers, possibly getting the price of a chewer/grinder.
Myers reported “good news and bad news” to the board about the Hurricane Creek project. Calhoun City did not receive the CDBG grant, but did get NRCS and ARC grants, and the board voted to utilize both to do the Hurricane Creek work.
Newly hired employee James Dewayne Carter was introduced to the board members.
Mayor Hill and City Clerk Raenell Moore reported Calhoun City’s sales tax had a $5,000 increase from last month.
The meeting ended in executive session in which no action was taken, and set up a budget work session.
