Bruce Sawmill Festival coming up next week

The 2018 Bruce Sawmill Festival kicks off next week with entertainment scheduled for both Friday and Saturday nights.
The 20th Century Club will host the annual Aqua Queen Pageant the night of Thursday, July 12 on the Bruce Square.
Traditional Friday night activities will include performances by Kim Gregory starting at 6:20 p.m. and Sounds of Tyme at 7 p.m.

Vendors will also fill the square Friday with nearly 50 registered thus far, Chamber Secretary Trina Griffin said. Local clubs’ involvement includes the Fine Arts’ homemade ice cream, 20th Century raffling McCarty Pottery, Bruce Rotary raffling a Henry rifle, and St. Luke Lodge grilling Johnny’s famous hamburgers.
The festival will open Saturday with Reconnect Therapy’s 5K at 7:30 p.m. and the Bruce Lion’s Club’s Car Show opening at 8:30 a.m.

Saturday’s highlights will include musical performances by Jessey Higdon, Mikayla Shelton, David Welch’s gospel group and the festival headliner – Dr. Zarr’s Amazing Funk Monster Saturday at 7 p.m.
Saturday will also include political speaking throughout the day with Danny Bedwell and Chris McDaniel, both U.S. senate candidates, and Sarah Liddy, a Chancery Judge candidate, among those already scheduled to attend.

The town will also host a special dedication Saturday evening of the police and fire departments with them being named for the late Stan Evans and the late John Edward Brasher. For more info on the festival call Bruce Chamber of Commerce at 983-2222.

Dr. Zarr’s Amazing Funk Monster will be the headline entertainment at this year’s festival taking the stage Saturday, July 14 at 7 p.m.
