The 2018 Bruce Sawmill Festival features an expanded schedule into Saturday night, some new attractions, along with traditional favorites.
The expanded schedule gives listeners more opportunities to come out and enjoy music on the square. Friday night entertainment will be highlighted by Kim Gregory’s “Trio of Faith” and then Sounds of Tyme.
Music will continue all day Saturday culminating with the performance by Dr. Zarr’s Amazing Funk Monster at 7 p.m.
Other musical acts scheduled to perform include Jessey Higdon, Mikayla Shelton and David Welch’s gospel group.
“Come out early, bring a lawn chair and enjoy some ice cream and good music,” said Bruce Chamber President Theresa Nicks. “We’re excited about our lineup this year.”
The festival will also feature the annual Show and Shine Car Show on Saturday. The Bruce Lions’ Club is sponsoring the event and prizes will be awarded to the top entries.
Those looking to get in an early morning run or walk can do so Saturday at 7:30 a.m. with the Reconnect Therapy sponsored 5K.
There will be plenty of food options available around the Square including Johnny’s famous hamburgers, banana boats, street corn, Erica’s shaved ice, hand-dipped corn dogs, sweet potato fries, red velvet funnel cakes, steak sandwiches, deep fried Oreos, pork skins and the Orient Express.
More than 50 vendors have registered with products such as pottery, various clothing, ceramics, art work, Tupperware, goat milk products and much more.
Saturday will also include political speaking throughout the day with Danny Bedwell and Chris McDaniel, both U.S. senate candidates, Sarah Liddy, Carnelia Fondren and Larry Little, Chancery Judge candidates, among those already scheduled to attend.
Local civic clubs will also be set up such as the Masons selling Johnny’s famous hamburgers, Fine Arts will offer their cool homemade ice cream under the chamber tent, Bruce Rotary will again be raffling a rifle, and the 20th Century Club will be hosting the Aqua Queen and King pageant Thursday night on the square. In case of rain, the pageant will move inside the Square Theater.
The town will also host a special dedication Friday evening for the police and fire departments with them being named for the late Stan Evans and the late John Edward Brasher.
