Chamber discusses fall, holiday promotions

Bruce Chamber of Commerce released details about their fall and Christmas promotions Monday at their regular monthly meeting.

Vice-President J.J. Winter presided at the meeting in the place of president Theresa Nicks. Fall Decoration/Scarecrow Contest will run from October 1-18.

Business owners are asked to decorate for fall with a “frightening or friendly, serious or silly” scarecrow or just a fall decoration. Judging will be October 18. You can email photos to chamber@brucetelephone.com. The Skuna River Arts Festival will be Oct. 13.

Bruce Unwrapped Christmas promotion will be Saturday, Nov. 3 when local businesses will host a town Open House event.

Businesses can purchase an advertising and promotion package through the chamber. Call Secretary Trina Griffin for details 983-2222.

In other business, chamber secretary Griffin said the museum had been rented six times in September, and they had eight rentals scheduled for October. She also reported that 65 memorial bricks had been ordered and were expected to arrive in the next couple of weeks. The bricks will be installed in the front of the museum as soon as possible.

Griffin reported that Connie’s Flowers in Bruce was celebrating their 30th year, D&D Nails, next to Pizza Palace is opening this week and Hardin Trucking was ranked 30th in Mississippi Business Journal’s Largest Trucking Companies Poll.

Present at the meeting were Chuck Howell, Randy Baker, J.J. Winter, Jay Vanlandingham, Ben Hogan, Barbara Winter, Lisa McNeece, Ted Plunk, Callie Watson, Allison McDowell, Cynthia Tedford, Shelia Freely, Andy Stepp, Trina Griffin and Minnie Evans.
