Calhoun City High School has had many new changes and many new people this school year, and a new band director is one of them.

Calhoun City High School Band Directors are, left, Jamim McPhetrige, assistant, and director Ken White, right.

Ken White, who was born in New York but raised in Kosciusko, has been teaching for 16 years. After being at Harrison Central for nine years, he found himself with his wife of 25 years and 6-year-old daughter in Calhoun City about to start a new job in a completely new town.

“After working with my band directors in 8th grade, I made the decision from then on that I wanted to be a band director,” said White.
“I don’t see why not. Whatever God’s will is is where I’ll be. I can’t really answer that though because I said the same thing when I was at Harrison Central. I was thinking I was only going to be there a year, and I ended up staying nine years,” White said after asked if he saw himself at Calhoun City for more years.

“This year’s marching show is called How Does Your Garden Grow. It basically starts out with soloists and then goes into several groupings coming together. It’s basically like a flower growing. You start with the seed, and it gradually grows until its full bloom. That’s basically the same concept with the show. You start off with soloists, and then it grows and grows until you have a full product. My goals for the band are just to try and make them better and do everything I can to make them sound better and play better.”
