Calhoun Countains will return to the polls next Tuesday, Aug. 27 to help decide five runoff races – four on the Republican ballot and one Democrat.
The most local of the runoffs is the Senate District 08 contests. Kegan Coleman of Calhoun City and Kathryn York of Water Valley face off on the Democratic ticket, while Ben Suber of Pittsboro and Stephen Scott Griffin of Houston meet on the Republican side.
The winners will advance to face off in the November general election.

Three other races are on the Republican ballot. John Caldwell and Geoffrey Yoste are vying for the Northern Transportation Commissioner post.
The winner will advance to November to face Democrat and Bruce native Joey Grist.
There are two statewide races in the Republican runoff. Tate Reeves and Bill Waller Jr. are head-to-head for the Republican nomination for governor.
The winner will advance to face Jim Hood in the governor’s race this November.

Lynn Fitch and Andy Taggart face off in the Attorney General’s race among Republicans. Democrat J. Riley Collins awaits the winner in November.
Absentee voting is taking place right now and the circuit clerk’s office in Pittsboro will be open from 8 a.m. until noon this Saturday, Aug. 24. The office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
If you voted in the primary election on Aug. 6, when you return to the polls on Aug. 27 you must vote in the same party ballot.

For example, if you voted on the Democratic ballot Aug. 6, you cannot vote in the Republican runoff.
If you didn’t vote at all Aug. 6, you will be able to choose which party ballot you want to vote on.
For any election questions, call the circuit clerk’s office at 412-3101.
