Sheriff Greg Pollan won easily. Chancery Clerk Romona Tillman won a tightly contested race. Board of Supervisors President Barney Wade earned another term and Gerald Thompson, of Bruce, earned his first on the board of supervisors in Tuesday’s general election.
Unofficial results showed Sheriff Pollan defeating challenger Roger Westmoreland with 68% of the vote (3,395-1,614).
Chancery Clerk Romona Tillman had a much more challenging race in which she edged out challenger Nicole Bennett McGreger, of Bruce, with 54% of the vote (2,728-2,331).
Gerald Thompson, son of longtime county supervisor Binnie Thompson, earned a seat on the board of supervisors defeating Justin Ferguson 560-514 (52%) in district three.
Board President Barney Wade had less difficulty defeating challenger David Martin, of Derma, with 64% of the vote (716-408).
The Senate District 08 Race saw Ben Suber of Pittsboro carry the county with 64% of the vote over Kegan Coleman of Calhoun City (3,230-1,811). Suber also won districtwide with 57% of the vote.
The other contested race involving a local candidate was Transportation Commissioner where Bruce native Joey Grist fell to John Caldwell of Desoto County. Caldwell carried Calhoun with 55% of the vote and won district wide with 66% of the vote.
In statewide races, Tate Reeves won the governor’s race over Jim Hood with Reeves holding 53% of the vote. Reeves carried Calhoun with 59% of the vote.
Delbert Hosemann won the race for Lieutenant Governor with 61% of the vote over Jay Hughes of Oxford. Hosemann also carried Calhoun with 68%.
Lynn Fitch is the winner in the race for Attorney General over Jennifer Riley Collins. Fitch had earned 59% of the statewide vote and carried Calhoun with 68%.
Michael Watson wil be the next Secretary of State after defeating Johnny Dupree with 60% of the statewide vote. He also carried Calhoun with 68%.
The State Treasurer’s race between David McRae and Addie Lee Green went McRae’s way with 67% of the reported vote. McRae carried Calhoun with 70%.
Andy Gipson won the Ag Commissioner post with 60% of the statewide vote over Rickey Cole. Gipson won Calhoun with 67%.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney was also an easy winner with 70% of the vote in Calhoun and 63% statewide over challenger Robert Amos.
Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley, District Attorney Ben Creekmore, Rep. Jim Beckett, Circuit Clerk Carlton Baker, Coroner Salena Westmoreland, County Attorney Tina Scott, Tax Assessor Bill Malone, Supervisor Charles Bobo, Supervisor Homer Moore, Supervisor Tony Morgan, Justice Court Judges Jim Vance and Mark Ferguson, and Constables Jay Vanlandingham and Benny Langford were all re-elected without opposition.
