‘City board seeking grants; purchase items for fire department, police

Calhoun City board agreed to seek several grants, made some purchases and an appointment at their November meeting.
Items approved by the board:
•Appointed Jerry Christian to 4-year term on library board.
•Accepted resignations from Tommy Brown and Nanette Williams as election commissioners.
•To apply for $28,000 grant, requiring a 25% match, to purchase two trucks for public works department.
•Agreed to seek $36,000 grant, requiring a 25% match, to purchase a mini excavator.
•Purchase of a deluge gun with accessories for $6,059 from Sunbelt Fire. Money will come from the fire fund.
•Paving grant agreement for $92,000 with a $10,000 match.
•Hired Willis Engineering to assist with MDOT water line relocation project needed for the MDOT bridge replacement/repair project.
•Adopted land and personal rolls as prepared by the county.
•Purchased a 2020 Dodge Durango police vehicle from Pine Belt Motors at state contract price ($24,200).
•Allow Tony Hardin to hire and pay Dixie Roofing to install EPDM patch on roof of city owned building on Boland Street where businesses Varsity Pro and Little Birdie are housed.
