Supervisors approve new garbage and jail personnel

Two bridge projects and the hiring of some new personnel were among the items addressed by the Calhoun County Board of Supervisors at their meeting last Friday.
The board approved the hiring of David White as a part-time driver for the Solid Waste Department and also signed off on Matthew Griffin, Brandon Murphy and John Halcomb as new part-time jailers with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department effective Feb. 14.
Two State Aid bridge projects were approved. SAP-07(77) in District three for replacement of bridge number 36 with a new bridge and SAP-07(78) in District Two to replace an existing bridge with a reinforced concrete box culvert.

Other items addressed by the board included:
•Received yearly building report from Trent Barnett for 2019 from the Multi-Purpose building showing $11,875 in revenue collected from rentals.
•Circuit Clerk Carlton Baker discussed vendors coming to set-up demo presentations for potential new voting equipment to replace the current outdated (obsolete) voting machines. The current voting machines used in the county were purchased in 2005.
•Supervisors agreed to refund land owners for over 65 and assessed wrong use value.

•Supervisors approved a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for Digital Ortho Photography upon approval of Board Attorney Sonny Clanton after questions are answered concerning MOA.
•Supervisors authorized Board President Barney Wade to sign support letter for Communicare to apply for a grant.
•The board approved the allocation of $5,000 to Soil Conservation for the Beaver Control program.

•Supervisors agreed to transfer $632.50 from district one and $575 from district four to county wide road for the use of CRS-2.
•The board approved door-to-door garbage pick-up for L.H. Johnson .
•The Solid Waste Contract was renewed for a new term.

•Travel for supervisors, board attorney, CEDA director and other officials to attend the TRPDD conference in Biloxi April 28 thru May 1 was approved.
•Supervisors agreed to purchase an IBM 6500 printer for Justice Court in the amount of $3295.
•Next scheduled meeting of the board is March 2.
