Calhoun County Supervisors began making plans to place new workers with the county’s garbage collection service at their meeting last week.
The board agreed to hire four full-time and four part-time employees to use on an as-needed basis to work with the garbage trucks. Sheriff Greg Pollan had expressed concerns at the previous meeting about the inmates working on the trucks and possibly getting exposed to the coronavirus and bringing it back into the jail.
In other news, the board tabled applications for a new Lift bus driver electing not to restart the service as the state’s shelter-in-place orders and pandemic are still ongoing.
The board also passed a resolution for emergency relief in response to the recent storms and damage left in their wake.
Supervisors purchased a new roller from Mid South Machinery for $19,500 and approved travel for the sheriff to attend his annual convention in Biloxi in July if it’s held.
They also hired two new part-time employees – Jobi Cook in district four and Baylen Hill in district two.
