Bruce Mayor Rudy Pope told the Bruce Chamber today that a complication from the FCC could halt AT&T’s plans to erect a new cell phone tower near Bruce Community Living Center.

Mayor Pope, addressing the chamber at their monthly lunch meeting Monday, said the FCC notified AT&T and the city that the proposed tower is “too tall.” He said AT&T has delayed the project for 30 days to decide whether they can shorten the tower or cancel the project altogether.

Pope also said he has received a request from Jim Earl Aron to extend city sewer service east of town along Hwy. 32 just past Snellings’ Service Station where Aron plans to put in a new business. Pope said he believed it would be something similar to a “dollar store.”

Pope also noted that MDOT has been surveying around town recently in preparation for overlaying Hwy. 32 from the intersection to the county line this summer.

Pope said the pavement around the square would be taken up in the process and the city would look at working on some of the water lines under those streets at that time.
