Slate Springs will hold a special election Tuesday, April 8 to elect the town’s next mayor.

The deadline to qualify is Thursday, April 3. Anyone living in the town limits and is a registered voter can run for mayor.

The special election is required following the death last week of Mayor Dale Weeks.

He had served in the position for the past four years following the death of Del Hemphill. Weeks was a long time board member prior to his election as mayor.

The current Slate Springs’ board consists of Carey Gregg, Darnell Nabors, Greg Lovorn, Andy Cannon and Donna Lovorn.

The mayor, nor the board of aldermen are paid. The only paid positions are Town Clerk Kim Lenard and Tax Collector Ida Pearl Cheesman.

Slate Springs’ population is 122 according to the 2010 U.S. Census.
