Talked with Bro. Fred Hartley Sunday. He was bitten recently by a “cotton mouth” at his home water meter.
After spending a night at NMMC, he has returned to his Vardaman home and preached at New Parkerburg Sunday. Alvin Junior called me August 6 and told me of Mildred Bagwell’s death. He called later in the day reporting the death of Mrs. Bagwell’s son-in-law, Tony Thompson. Will miss going by and visiting Mrs. Bagwell. Alvin Jr. will really miss her. He called her every day and has for the past several years.
Alvin Jr.’s mother, Hazel Blount, wrote Lantrip news for the CCJ and the Bagwell news was reported to her.
Some Covid-19 victims are improving and others have recently tested positive. My sister-in-law, Jackie Alexander, was diagnosed with the virus last week. As of Sunday, she was at Corinth.
Sorry I was not aware last week of community resident, Jerry Chandler’s death. Became acquainted with him and Jean after they moved into our area several years ago on what was known as the “Nellie Clark” property.
Farmers and cattlemen are hoping for rain this week. Most areas have not seen rain in two weeks or more. Hopefully, this August will not be a repeat of 2000 when no measurable rainfall fell for the entire month. Had a double treat at Lantrip Sunday. Bro. Lynn and Linda Potts were visitors for both services, and presented a “chalk ministry program.”
From Jan Barber: We are closer to an election and Christmas. Hope the heat and Coronavirus are both better soon! As August is weed month. Talked with Shirley Bray and she said Bro. Bray spoke from Matthew 5:1-16. We need to think on the Beatitudes. Remember to pray for Sam Burt, J.R. Denton, Cindy Williams, Yvonne Usry Blaylock, Jerry Ward, Ann and Regina Griffin, families of Lee McGreger and James Sidney Warner; our police, businesses, president and country! Acts 16, 31 Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shall be saved!
