The Calhoun City Chamber is initiating a new award program where they will honor a chamber business each quarter and will also present an award for best team spirit among local businesses during this year’s Egg Bowl Run which will again come through Calhoun County with the exchange taking place on the Calhoun City Square.
“We want to encourage everyone to get involved in this year’s run,” Chamber President Laura Edwards said.
Alderwoman Barbara Goodson said the Community Room at City Hall will soon house Ace Cannon memorabilia. “We have posters, album covers and his first horn,” Goodson said.
Goodson also reported the corner flower beds on the square are going to be redone. The chamber is also looking at replacing some trees and adding more public seating.
President Edwards said Wednesday’s farmers’ market will feature a display of local convertibles. All are welcome to bring their convertibles to the square for the show.
In past weeks, the market has hosted a Back to School Bash, ambulance display and the Antique Tractor Club.
Children’s author Whitney White of Big Creek, spoke to the chamber about her plan to publish a book written and illustrated by Calhoun City 3rd-4th grade SPICE students. Any proceeds from the books will be placed in a college fund for the students involved.
The chamber agreed to donate $700 for the initial printing cost for 150 books.
It was also announced that this year’s Octoberfest would be held Oct. 30.
