Lannis May, a Mississippi State graduate, said he used to drive through Bruce headed to Ole Miss to watch basketball games.
Today, the Quitman native calls it home. May is entering his second month in Bruce after being named pastor at Bruce United Methodist Church.
“This is a very pleasant place to live with lots of friendly people,” May said.
He was called to the ministry in 1992 and immediately began seminary.
He has since served churches in Meridian, DeKalb, Union, Anguilla, Jones and Wayne counties and most recently Independence.
Prior to entering the ministry he worked in the logging equipment business. He also owned a used car lot in Quitman.
“I’ve had the pleasure of serving in several wonderful communities and am pleased to be here in Bruce,” May said.
He didn’t come to Bruce with any specific plans or goals for the church, choosing instead to familiarize himself with the church and community and then together evaluate what needs exist.
“I’m working right now to get to know the church and the people of the community,” May said. “And allow them to get to know me.”
