Recently, students from all walks of the county came together to volunteer and serve the Calhoun Economic Development Association at their annual banquet January 22.

Bruce was represented by both the BETA club and the Juniorettes branch of the Fine Arts Club. All of the students assisted in serving the attendees’ dinners as well as offering any other assistance to the guests.

“Volunteering for the CEDA banquet will be a great opportunity for Beta members,” said Sunny Rea, BETA sponsor, prior to the event. “Hopefully, they will be able to learn something from the admirable people attending as well as the etiquette of a formal meal. I believe it will be a memorable experience.”
Beta member Hannah Morris stated, “This experience taught me a lot about generosity. Being generous is always the right way to go, and you can never go wrong with generosity.”

“They’re learning to give back into their community. All of their volunteer services are, in some way, to give back into their community,” said Carol Shoemaker, Juniorettes’ sponsor. “It is something that I’m hoping they will take with them when they leave high school and head to college. It is just raising a good citizen.”

“I learned very valuable etiquette skills while serving at the CEDA Banquet,” said Juniorette Jalynn Aron, “like that you serve the food from the left and pick it back up from the right!”
The students who volunteered not only received volunteer hours but also got the chance to learn how good it can feel to give back to the community.
