A fatal accident occurred around 8:30 this morning on Hwy 8 West in Calhoun County near County Road 380.
A white 2007 Chevrolet Extended Cab pickup driven by 37 year old Darlene Farmer of Coffeeville was traveling west bound on Hwy 8. Farmer attempted to pass a vehicle and upon entering the other lane collided head on with a east bound white 2010 Ford F-150 driven by 57 year old Barry Hanks of Grenada.
A third vehicle driven by 23 year old Danielle King of Grenada was also east bound on Hwy 8 in a blue 1994 Ford Explorer. King also collided with the Ford pickup after the initial head on crash, causing her vehicle to leave the highway and roll over.
Mr. Hanks, who was employed by Terminix and serviced many Calhoun County businesses and home, was pronounced dead at the scene by Calhoun County Coroner Jerry Fleming.
Farmer was airlifted to Tupelo NMMC with serious injuries. King sustained no major injuries and was not transported.
The accident remains under investigation by MHP.
