A groundbreaking ceremony will be held today (Jan. 13) for Calhoun Banking Center on Hwy. 9 in Bruce.
Bruce, Calhoun County, Bruce Chamber of Commerce and Bank of Okolona officials will gather for the ceremony at 1 p.m.
Randy Baker, president of the new bank, said the construction project is scheduled to last 180 days but they don’t expect to be in the new location until some time after that.
“There’s a lot of setup that has to take place once the building is complete,” Baker said. “A lot of stuff that goes into opening a new bank like this.”
Calhoun Banking Center will be located on the corner of Hwy. 9 and Center Street, directly behind the Dollar General store.
The Bruce facility will be the fourth branch for the Bank of Okolona, with the others in Okolona, Houston and Mantee.
The new bank will include a 3-lane drive-thru, ATM machine and night deposit.
“We will offer pretty much any type of loan you need,” Herrod told the Bruce Rotary Club a few months ago. “As for deposit services, we’re going to have checking, savings, CDs, money market accounts. We’re currently working on a mobile banking application as well.”
The bank is currently operating in a temporary location across Center Street from where construction should soon begin.
“We expect the construction company to move in a trailer and start moving ground this week,” Baker said. “We invite everybody to come out and be part of Wednesday’s groundbreaking.”
