Mayor J.R. Denton told the Calhoun City Chamber of Commerce Tuesday that they hoped to be close to securing some property for the arbor removed from the square.
Denton said the town can begin negotiating with several different pieces of property as a potential site for the arbor. The chamber supported the presentation from Denton and agreed for him to pursue a lease with the best potential site. Those locations were not made public due to the need for private negotiations.
The chamber’s intention is for the farmers’ market vendors to continue to use the arbor wherever it is installed. Chamber President Laura Edwards said the arbor will also be stained, as was originally planned, before it is erected.
In other chamber news, Edwards said new trees have been acquired and should be planted on the square in the coming weeks.
Edwards reported good feedback on the nativity scene installed on the square during Christmas holidays. She said they have plans for more decor on the south side of the square for next year.
The annual Spring Fling event, featuring local businesses, will be March 10.
