Calhoun City board agrees on new location for arbor

The Farmer’s Market arbor will be placed on the vacant lot on the west side of the Calhoun City Square after approval was made by the board of aldermen last night.
city arbor74The lot, belonging to Wallace Norman, will rent for $600 per year and was previously approved by the Chamber of Commerce.
The board gave approval for Calhoun City police officer Greg Sockwell to be sent to the police academy for a 12-week full time training course.

Police Chief Tito Lopez was granted approval to hire Langford Construction to do some repair work at the police department.
Public works director Lee Burns reported a pump going out on their backhoe and repair of this was approved.
Burns and Alderman Marshall Coleman discussed an area on North Main Extended that will need some work, and it came up that a culvert for Keenum Road will have to be purchased.

They approved a grant agreement for sewer repairs which will be used on the east side of town, and it was noted that they have two years to spend the money.

The mayor and board ended their meeting in an hour long executive session discussing two personnel matters.
In one of those, Emma Hubbard was given a $25 month increase in her janitorial contract.
No action was taken on the other.
