The town of Vardaman has reached an agreement with the Sutherland family to buy the old hardware building on Main Street for a town complex.
The board will pay $85,000 for the facility, which will hold the police department, fire department, a courtroom, water department, evidence room, city hall and storage.
“We will have a whole lot more room than we have now, for every department,” Mayor James Casey said.
The board voted to sell the Sweet Potato Building on Main Street for $19,900 to Tommy Scarbrough.
That money will go toward the purchase price of the building in addition to pulling funds out of existing funds– $30,000 from water, $20,000 from general funds, $5,000 from police department and $10,000 from the fire department.
Mayor Casey said, “We can start doing renovations on our own painting, cleaning up, etc.”
In another matter, they approved automobile insurance renewal for the town.
They also approved street and water superintendent Brent Harrell to attend a water class in Jackson in March.
