Calhoun County supervisors adopted a resolution Monday urging the Mississippi Legislature to increase funding for state and local transportation needs and to “properly allocate” such funds to the counties for road and bridge maintenance.
The resolution is part of a statewide effort endorsed by the Mississippi Association of Supervisors.
In related news, the board approved a state aid project for base repair, leveling, striping and signage in every district totaling over $1.5 million.
Other news from the meeting:
•Sheriff Greg Pollan told the board he would be getting quotes to repair roof damage at the county jail.
•Trent Barnett presented quotes to repair the bucking chutes at the rodeo arena at the fairgrounds for $3,804 from Ideal Construction. The Fair Board and the county agreed to split the cost.
•Tosha Sullivan requested maintenance be done to CR 235. Supervisor Gwin Longest said he would look into it.
•Contracts with all the volunteer fire departments were approved and with Westlaw for the online law library.
•Travel was approved for the board to attend the MAPDD Conference in Biloxi in May, the 2016 Road Conference in Starkville later this month, and for Supervisor Ernest Fox to attend the Minority Caucus in Pascagoula in April.
•Approved first payment to contractor for Calhoun Health Services project in the amount of $113,308.
•Approved requested school bus turnaround on Hwy. 9.
•Approved the low bid from Tri-State Truck Center in the amount of $113,366 for a new truck for district three.
•Approved request from Supervisor Fox to advertise for a backhoe.
•Engineering bids for drainage work at county fairgrounds from Greenwood Engineering and Willis Engineering were opened and taken under advisement.
