The Calhoun City Chamber of Commerce announced plans for its annual banquet, SquareFest and several improvements around town at Tuesday’s meeting.
President Laura Edwards said the annual Chamber awards banquet will be Tuesday, June 14 at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall and Sen. Russell Jolly will be the featured speaker.
Edwards said Jessey Higdon, of Bruce, will be the featured entertainment at SquareFest May 28. This year’s festival will also feature a BBQ competition (pulled pork, ribs and chicken). Coolidge Thomas, owner of Uncle Cool’s BBQ in Derma, helping to organize.
Edwards said there is still more work to be done on the arbor, and they hope to have it done by SquareFest, Edwards said. First farmers market (Walkabout Wednesday) will be in June.
Edwards said the beautification committee is in process of getting flowers replaced on square. Also on the agenda is replacing rose bushes at library and they are planning a cleanup day with the city in May, but date not confirmed yet.
